League games are played Wednesday nights at Llandaff Fields, Cathedral Rd.

The league season takes place from early April until late August. The April Training sessions and League games are run every week from 6pm. Currently we have eight teams and interested new players are always welcome to come along have a go or just watch if you would prefer to.

Teams can often be found playing on a Sunday afternoon. These sessions are more informal and a great way to meet some of the players. The league plays at a recreational level and is ideal for anyone, male or female and over the age of 18, who likes to spend sunny evening in the park!

If you think you would like to have a go at playing and would like some more information, please feel free to email us at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it giving a little information about yourself, sporting interests etc.

Softball is a version of baseball that can be played by mixed-sex, mixed-ability teams, with the 10-a-side teams made up of 5 men and 5 women. It can be a fast moving game, lasting either 5-7 innings or 90 minutes. The batting side attempts to get their players round the 'diamond' whilst the fielding side tries to get them out in one of several ways. The fielding side has to get three batters out to end their 'inning'. Teams then reverse roles and so the game continues.

This document is very good at explaining the basics of the game: Idiots Guide to Softball.

With the rain making an early appearance on Saturday morning, the day of the Llandaff Cup looked like it may turn out to be a bit of a damp squib. With many of the teams running the risk of losing players at an early stage due to the socialising of the night before, captains were busy rousing the troops. However, in true Cardiff Softball style the fields filled up in time with players and softball kit for the first round of matches and the sun made a welcome appearance. Bristol umpires Mark Fenton and Jo Stretton made their way over the bridge and were ready to call the teams to Play Ball at 11am. The Red Sox were home to the Hammers and the Hurricanes hosted the Orioles.
